Veritas N3510 Wheel Marking Gauge-micro-adjustable Plain Rod
The Veritas standard wheel marking gauge is a great workhorse and excellent value; the internal O-ring feature makes it easy to set and use.
Due to the number of requests for a micro-adjust feature, Veritas have developed a second model. It is similar to the standard wheel marking gauge with an anodized aluminum body, brass face, stainless-steel rod and internal O-ring to keep a constant light friction force on the rod. It differs in that the body is slightly longer and is fitted with a two-stage collet that allows micro-adjustment of the cutting wheel. The collet has a fine-pitch thread; one revolution advances or retracts the wheel 1/32\", a half turn 1/64\", a quarter turn 1/128\", etc. The knurled thumbscrew then locks the setting.
The hardened steel wheel cuts wood fibers rather than tears them, which leaves a clean mark, even on cross grain. The wheel\\\'s single-sided bevel also forces the gauge face against the stock, maintaining accuracy. The cutting edge of the wheel is at the extreme end of the shaft, which is useful for transferring dimensions such as tenon shoulder or mortise depth. The wheel retracts into the face of the gauge for storage.
The micro-adjust gauge is available with either an unmarked rod or a rod graduated to 6\" in 16ths.
